Battery Tips:
To extend the life of Nickel-Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries, avoid deep discharges, store them at roughly 50% charge in cool conditions, and avoid overcharging. Regularly cycle them (discharge/recharge) every 3-6 months to prevent capacity loss. Keep operating temperatures between 32° F and 104° F to prevent premature degradation.
- Avoid Deep Discharges: Do not run NiMH batteries down to 0% often; it is better to recharge them when they reach about 20-25% capacity.
- Avoid Overcharging: Remove from charger when the battery is full. Do not leave batteries in a charger for more than 20 hours.
- Storage Tips: For long-term storage, keep them in a cool, dry place (not the freezer) at
approximately 40-50% charge.
- Maintenance Cycling: Every 3-6 months, perform a full charge-discharge-charge cycle to keep the chemicals active and prevent voltage depression.
- Keep Them Cool: High heat (above 122° F) destroys NiMH cells. If they feel very hot after use or charging, let them cool before recharging or reusing.
- First-Time Use: Charge new NiMH batteries fully before their first use.
